Coarse pores

Coarse pores

In the skin, a distinction can be made between two types of pores: oil pores and sweat pores. The oil pores are also known as hair follicles. Each hair follicle contains a sebaceous gland that produces sebum. The function of pores is to provide a safe passage for the sebum to the skin's surface, with the aim of protecting the skin.

How do coarse pores form?

Due to various factors, our body sometimes produces too much sebum. If skin cells hang around this sebaceous gland, this can lead to a blockage that keeps the sebum from accumulating. This results in a clogged pore, i.e., blackhead. When a pore is clogged, it can stretch and enlarge over time. The pore is then visible as a small hole. If this process is not stopped, more pores will stretch. This makes the pores more visible and the skin becomes coarser in structure. Causes that lead to large pores are increased sebum production and reduced elasticity around the pore due to skin aging and UV radiation. In addition, hormonal changes during pregnancy or menopause can cause larger pores. Finally, (excessive) use of cosmetics, greasy creams and careless cleaning of the skin can also lead to a clogged, and therefore larger pore.

What can I do myself with coarse pores

Pores do not contain muscles, so they can change size so easily. However, you can make the pores less noticeable. It is important to keep the skin supple and prevent the pores from becoming clogged. When the pores are clogged, you can use an exfoliant with salicylic acid to dissolve the sebum in the pore. By removing dead skin cells and sebum in the pore, it will also be less noticeable.

Use the home care from Murad to minimize the appearance of coarse pores.
